Cliff Notes: Born three/18/2015 @ 5pm, forty+1, eight lbs 1 oz, 19″ lengthy, third kid, 2nd UC
This was once kid #3 for us and since both of my boys were born right around 36 weeks this pregnancy seemed to drag. On Tuesday this week, I mentioned to my husband that I was at forty weeks and we should really do a belly shot (kind of bad about taking pictures at all) and he made the comment that we could take one the next day. I had also scheduled an OB appt for the next day that DH was going to meet me at, just to make sure that baby was still in a good position. Well, since the baby had dropped two weeks prior, I’d been having regular prodromal labor. I’d have regular contractions of the 4-1-1 variety for 5 or 6 hours and then they would just space out. They weren’t painful, but very noticeable. Tuesday night, a couple were bad enough that they woke me up. DH left for work before I got up and my boys woke me up around seven. I fed them and as the contractions were forcing me to stop and focus, I started timing them around nine, though aside from intensity, they weren’t any different from the ones I had been having over the past two weeks.
I was very short with the kids, and basically let them watch TV (which I usually insist wait till after lunch) so I could focus. I was texting DH too, letting him know that these were worse and we might not make the appt. The kids were hungry and I could hear them raiding the pantry, but again, too focused on the pain to care (although I did complain to DH that they I couldn’t get them to share the chips). After they finished off the bag of chips, I retreated to the bathroom with a new bag of chips, the rest of the salsa, a water bottle and a jug of orange juice. I drew a hot bath and found some relief as the contractions started getting more painful and closer together.
Unfortunately, I was having crazy back pain with each contraction so at noon when DH asked how things were I simply replied “Please come home”. It was about 45 minutes before he arrived and I was feeling at my wit’s end. This labor was so different from my last one. From the time I got into the tub, I found one of the only ways the contractions felt better was to push while they were happening. DH provided amazing counter-pressure, all while being reassuring and fielding the kids. We had prepped a couple of bins with supplies so they were at hand. I no longer wanted to be in the tub, so I knelt outside of it with my head or chest on the edge of the tub. I kept asking DH to check me, but it seemed like nothing was changing. I really really felt too that if my water would just break I would have the baby soon after, so I was begging DH to try and break the waters but he said he could feel it but couldn’t grip it to break it.
At one point, maybe around 3:15, the contractions eased off and I slipped back into the tub. I think I had about a 30 minute respite where the water was enough to ease the pain and I even slept a bit. After that though, I was back to moaning and roaring and screaming as the contractions started coming hard and fast. It seemed like every time I changed positions, another one would hit. I was out of the tub for the rest of the time. We had laid out a bunch of towels and a pillow we didn’t care about so I had something soft to kneel on. Again, I started insisting DH break my waters and he. kept. stalling. We had an amniohook and he really took his time trying to find it once I demanded he get it (at least, that’s what it felt like). Just before five, I told him that after the next contraction he was to break my waters and he agreed, but then as the next one hit and I pushed with the pain, there was a loud pop and a small gush of water hit the towels. I felt the newborn’s head transfer down after which I was once pushing her out. It can be wonderful how tiny they appear as soon as they are born in comparison with how giant their heads really feel if you end up pushing them out. It gave the impression find it irresistible took perpetually to push her head out however then it used to be and DH used to be encouraging me to push out her shoulders (it became out that when her head was once out he might see the twine through her shoulder) which gave the impression tougher than the top however then she used to be out. DH rubbed her chest as I became over. I obtained the bulb syringe and suctioned her nostril and mouth as we endured rubbing her down. Once more, time strikes bizarre so it felt like without end however used to be most certainly just a few seconds after we suctioned her that she began crying and pinking up. DH coated us with a towel and he or she began nursing in an instant. In truth, she handed her meconium whereas I was once nonetheless on the ground nursing her and it used to be loads. The placenta got here out in a subject of minutes and was once a lot larger than I remember that with my ultimate one. DH cleaned up then I showered and the boys got here in to satisfy their child sister and we minimize the twine about two hours after she was once born.&#thirteen;
