Derek, first of all, I love your new avatar; it really made me laugh! :D

Secondly, I have heard that, too, about exercising early in the morning on an empty stomach being better for fat burning and really do believe it. Plus, if I work out at night, I have a hard time falling asleep.

Thanks. My girlfriend showed it to me on Pinterest just a few minutes ago and I thought it was a perfect fit for how some people like to "comfort-ize" health and fitness.

In regards to exercise in the morning...it doesn't matter what time of day as much as it matters what is in your stomach. I don't run in the morning, but I train around 4:30pm in a fasted state for the same fat burning effect.

I also stay in a fasted state for another hour afterwards to maximize the fat burning and I have nooo problem falling asleep at all after 5 strenuous days of weight training in a row.

I try to run for about 45 minutes when I get up in the morning. It's either that, or turn the tv on and watch sportscenter or Mike and Mike. I think I'm making the right move by getting out of the house. lol

I'm confused by this statement. Are you saying this because the muscle looks denser than the fat, or are you mistaking the larger, yellow fat for the smaller red muscle?

And muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. That is an old saying that I wish we could put to rest. Five pounds of muscle and five pounds of fat are both "five pounds". The only difference, as the photo shows us, is that muscle, being denser, takes up way less space that the same amount of fat in weight.
---End Quote---

Muscle is more dense than fat...as you stated in the final couple sentences of your post.

Right. Five pounds of muscle weigh exactly the same as five pounds of fat. Just as five pounds of stone will be exactly the same weight as five pounds of feathers. So which will fall faster, five pounds of stone or five pounds of feathers?

Yes, I step on and off my scale a good dozen times. I consider this my step workout. ;p

Seriously, though, do a workout called Cardio Callanetics. It's short (about 40 mintues) but gives you a good sweat.

I use to run first thing in the morning for at least 30minutes. I used to do it on an empty stomach but I currently drink a protein shake before I run.

It depends on what I have to do for the day. I can workout in the morning. Sometimes the workouts are in the evening. I feel as longs as I get it in, I'm good.

It is better than nothing to workout at any time during the day...however, the point of early morning cardio is simply to activate stubborn fat stores when you are performing intense cardiovascular exercise in a fasted state / on an empty stomach.

In the summer months, I swim once or twice a day, and I can lose around 7lbs without really trying. However, alongside that, I am also eating more salads and less high calorie stuff, because the heat affects my appetite. That would seem to underline the point that it's the combination of exercise and healthy eating that leads to weight loss, and that maybe we expect too much from exercise alone.

Same here. I had always thought that a walk is good exercise. Now I know better. A walk is still very good exercise, on condition that it's a brisk walk. Up 14 floors. I think that qualifies as cardio. Right?

Burning calories is what most people mean when they tak about boosting metabolism.
Exercise naturally boosts your metabolism because you are burning more than you usually burn so your body is metabolizing food faster.

You like chicken soup, too? It's one of my favorites. I normally make chicken soup with the bones. I can buy the bones very cheaply at the market. Then I add in big onions, garlic and potatoes. What's your recipe?
---End Quote---

Luckly for me, I grow chickens :D I don't have to go out and buy the meat.
I first boil the meat, then I change the water, add vegetables (no garlic) like carrots, onions, peas, potatoes. When it's almost ready I add home made noodles :D It's delicious!

Somehow I think they will sell. Not sure if they can compete with hot cakes, though. I have personally seen rubber toys made to look exactly like a piece of turd and they sell rather well. So why not a blob of fat?

Looking at the pictures, it makes have goosebumps on my skin. I'm not that fat, not thin either, I'm still in a normal weight with a normal BMI but I don't want to exceed to what is normal to me. I didn't expect nor thought that that's what a muscle look like when covered with fats, so odd, its a good form of motivations though to those who's really undergoing a weight loss program.

Wow what a difference between the two! Even though the fat part looks disgusting, we should be aware that it is present in large quantities inside our bodies so we should stop fooling ourselves and work out regularly to attain a fit body.

I have to say that is pretty difficult to look at and realize that there's around 12 of those in my body that I desperately want to rid myself of. It's definitely some fantastic motivation, though! I would much prefer to have the nice lean muscle!
