Dimitrov edges Murray to set up Anderson date in Acapulco

Sat Mar 1, 2014 6:09am EST

(Reuters) - Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov edged second seed Andy Murray in a semi-final clash at the Acapulco International that finished in the early hours of Saturday morning to set up a title showdown against South Africa's Kevin Anderson.

Wimbledon champion Murray won the opening set but the 22-year-old Dimitrov fought back to take the next two sets on tie-breaks to win 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-3) with the clock ticking past 2:30 a.m. local time.

The number four seed had never won a set in their three previous meetings and needed close to three hours to beat the 26-year-old Briton, who was trying to reach his first final since undergoing back surgery in September.

Murray, who suffered an early loss of serve in the final set, broke back with his opponent serving for the match at 5-4 but Dimitrov took control of the tie-break to close out the win.

World number 21 Anderson, who lost to Marin Cilic in the Delray Beach Open title match last Sunday, reached his second final in as many weeks with a hard-fought 6-1 5-7 6-4 win against Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov in the other semi-final.

Dolgopolov, ranked 38th in the world, was also bidding for his second consecutive final after he lost to Rafa Nadal in the Rio de Janeiro Open final last week.

(Reuters) - The National Football League's salary cap will be increased by nearly $10 million next year to $133 million per team, the league told teams on Friday.

The rise is larger than initial estimates and gives teams a little extra breathing room under the cap, which is tied to projected revenue from all of the NFL's commercial agreements for the upcoming season and meets requirements under the Players' Association's Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The 2014 level represents the highest salary cap set by the league, though that is expected to rise in 2015 when new television contracts are factored into the equation.

The 2011 CBA gives players 55 percent of revenue from TV deals, 45 percent of revenue from league properties and 40 percent of local revenue.

Individual teams are required to spend an average of 89 percent of the salary cap from 2013-16, while teams across the league must spend an average of 95 percent of the salary cap over the four-year period.

The Pittsburgh Steelers ($138.7m) and Dallas Cowboys ($150.9m) are the only two teams projected to be above the salary cap and the increased limit for the 2014 season will allow them greater opportunity to hold onto players.

Teams have until March 11, the start of the league's 2014 year and free agency, to cut or trade away players on their roster or renegotiate contracts to ensure they meet the cap requirements. Teams above the cap are fined by the league.

Players like New Orleans tight-end Jimmy Graham, who are franchise tagged, will benefit from the increased level as their salaries are tied to a percentage of the cap.

Buffalo's Miller, Ott move to the Blues

Fri Feb 28, 2014 9:47pm EST

(Reuters) - The St. Louis Blues bolstered their playing stocks for their likely playoff run by acquiring Buffalo Sabres' goaltender Ryan Miller and center Steve Ott on Friday.

Blues' goaltender Jaroslav Halak, forwards Chris Stewart and William Carrier plus a 2015 first-round pick and a conditional draft pick went to the Sabres in return.

After being knocked out by Los Angeles during the playoffs in the last two seasons, the Blues (39-13-6) made the move to better their depth.

The 33-year-old Miller won the Vezina Trophy in 2010 as the NHL's best goalie and is a two-time All-Star.

He boasts a career record of 284-186-56 along with a 2.60 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.

The Blues also picked up veteran Ott who has 264 points (103 goals, 161 assists) in 673 career games.

The Sabres are the worst team in the NHL this season and fired general manager Darcy Regier in January. Friday's trade is the first move by new GM Tim Murray.

Halak, 28, has a 139-81-26 record with a 2.38 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage in eight NHL seasons.

The 26-year-old Stewart, a first-round draft pick in 2006, has 228 points (115 goals, 113 assists) in 377 career games.

Carrier was selected 57th overall in 2013 by the Blues.

Is Dairy Milk Bad for You?

Lately, I have been seeing many articles posted that dairy milk is actually not good for your health. I have always loved drinking milk since I was a child and this news pretty much make me feel conflicted. Has anyone here ever come across an article debunking the milk's bad effects? I have tried searching it, but most of the debunking articles do not refer to actual science journal.
