5 Most Effective Cardio Workouts

Your body will thank you if you give it a cardio-vascular workout. It may not leave you with bulging biceps, but what woman would want this anyhow? Cardio works on the muscles around the heart and lungs, and improves general health and fitness in these organs. Cardio is the main method of exercise to lose calories and will help make your lifestyle much more healthy and will make you feel generally more fit.

Indeed, if you are looking to lose weight, gain some acceptable levels of muscle tone, build stamina and improve general health, cardio will tick all of these boxes. There are plenty of choices to pick from when deciding the best cardio exercises to get involved in. There are no top five best cardio exercises to perform, you will benefit from them all. It is a good idea to do the ones you enjoy most, but here are an idea of 5 good ones to use.

Running is perhaps the most effective and widely used cardio exercise that people take up. It is so popular with people because Jogging along a cycle path or round a local park is free and will save you gym membership fees it is also something you can do with your partner or with your headphones in to let out some steam! The only equipment you need to go jogging is a pair of good quality running shoes or trainers. This is very important because whilst running your feet take a fair amount of shock so if you’re running in cheap shoes then it can cause problems in the future. Most of us already have a pair of shorts or track suit jogging bottoms and a t-shirt. Running is a good way you can get your body to build strong tissue and bone structure as it is a high-impact cardio exercise. If running is too intense the try jogging instead.

Cycling is a cardio vascular exercise that gets you out of doors and burns plenty of calories. Cycling also helps to boost those leg muscles, giving you a far better pair of pins to be admired, who doesn’t want that?! A 40-minute cycle will burn around 500 calories, that’s enough to work off a full blown big meal so get cycling.

Have you ever been down to the gym and wondered why so many people occupy those ski apparatus you stand on? Elliptical training is highly effective in burning calories and works both the arms and the legs and does so in such a way as to reduce any impact, unlike running does. Elliptical machines are also effective workouts.

Swimming is an extremely popular sport and exercise for building those heart and lung muscles. Again, like the elliptical training skis a good swim will have no impact on your body, allowing you to burn calories and gain fitness and strength. Swimming is popular for those who want to participate in a cardio workout but struggle with high intensity workouts that put strain on the joints. However because the gravity in water is a little like being in space, there is no where near as much strain on the muscles and joints but still gives you a good workout.

Rowing is the one feature in the gym many seem to overlook. Rowing machines are everywhere in the gym if you can’t get down to your local rowing club by the river. A good 15 minute row will burn around 250 calories right off your body and leave you feeling like you have really done your body a favour.
