Green smoothies

I'm planning to get a blender for the kitchen in my new flat, so I can make smoothies to take to lectures and drink throughout the day to get lots of vitamins and minerals. I'm also looking to lose a little weight (just half a stone or so), and I've heard green smoothies are great for this. However, I have a few questions. Are they really disgusting? I've heard they're the kind of thing you need to "learn to love". Also, what would be the best ingredients to add if I wanted to lose a few pounds? What would I add if I wanted to clear up my skin? What about boosting my immune system? I know there's loads of options, I just don't know what combinations are best for certain things!
