Hiding Terminal Illness

I have heard of stories of people, usually elder members of a family, keeping their illnesses from the rest of their family members. I recently learned about this woman who had cancer, and she had known about it for quite some time, without any treatment, so she must have been in quite some time.

She managed to hide this from the rest of her family, who hadn't a clue that anything was amiss.

Then a family member took her to the doctor for a check-up or whatever the reason was, and the doctor asked her for an update on how she was feeling due to the cancer. Of course the family member was shocked, because they had known nothing of her cancer.

When they began to try to get the gears turning so that she could get some treatment, the lady dies two days later, which is sad.

I can see why someone would keep an illness from their family, but on the flip side I would be furious if someone close to me kept me in the dark like that.

Your thoughts?
