NYC Mayor De Blasio Takes Formal Oath At City Hall

NEW YORK (AP) — A dozen years ago, Bill de Blasio attended New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's inauguration as a newly-minted city councilman.

He was unknown to most outside his Brooklyn district and a small circle of political operatives.

But the 52-year-old de Blasio now is Bloomberg's successor, elected by a record margin and considered the face of the city's progressive movement.

He will be saluted at noon Wednesday by former President Bill Clinton, who will deliver the oath of office in a lavish ceremony on the City Hall steps.

Twelve hours earlier, de Blasio took the oath a first time in front of his modest Brooklyn home.

"Many great things are ahead for all of us," said New York City's 109th mayor.

Bloomberg is leaving office after three terms.
