Super Bowl 2014: Seahawks-Broncos predictions from the red carpet - The Star-Ledger

NEW YORK -- Before its honors ceremony on Saturday, the NFL set up a red carpet walkway just outside Radio City Music Hall. By replacing part of West 50th Street just east of Sixth Avenue with a well-lit makeshift tent, the league tried to replicate the entrance to the Oscars. And since the NFL's capacity for self-congratulation can be every bit as superficial as Hollywood's, the result was a success.

There were a lot of television people on the red carpet, which meant there were a lot of television-people-type questions, which meant there were a lot of answers with little substance. As the passing cognoscenti explained for the eighth time how great it was to be here, we tried to ask as many of them as possible to predict a winner in Super Bowl North Jersey. Here are the answers we got:

Jets defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson: "Seattle. I like defense, man. I love their defense and how they get after it."

Bears running back Matt Forte: "I'm an offensive guy, so I've been picking the Denver Broncos all week."

Colts linebacker Robert Mathis: "I'm just rooting for a good game and everybody to come out healthy."

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh: "I'm not really rooting for anybody, but I'm going to go with the AFC team. We've got to stick with our conference, so I'm going with the Broncos."

Rams defensive end Robert Quinn: "I'm pulling for Seattle. NFC West. I'm going to go for Seattle. 28-24 Seattle."

Browns receiver Josh Gordon: Didn't ask. But he was wearing sunglasses indoors.

Jets owner Woody Johnson: "No."

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski: [smiled and kept walking]

Former Raiders/Panthers/Cowboys receiver Raghib Ismail: Didn't get to ask. Just was amazed to see "The Rocket" was actually here.

Former 49ers and Lions coach and current NFL network analyst Steve Mariucci: "It's quite a matchup, with the best offense and the best defense, right? So I expect a heck of a close game. I think maybe it's going to be which quarterback has the ball last."

Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk: "I'm rooting for Peyton because he's a friend of mine. And I believe it'll silence the critics and the pundits because they only thing they have to talk about is the postseason with him, as if the games that you win in the regular season don't really help you get to the postseason."

Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown: "Not really. If Peyton Manning has a bad day, they're going to lose. If he has a great day, they're going to kill the other team."

Former Packers, Rams, Giants, and Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner: "I don't yet." Oooh, wow, Kurt. The suspense is killing us.

Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez: "I'm going to go with Denver. You give Peyton Manning that much time to prepare—I'm not saying he's going to pick that defense apart, because they're a very good defense—but I think he's going to be able to create some matchups and put some points up on the board. And the Denver defense is good. A lot of people aren't even talking about it because they get overshadowed by the offense, but I think they're going to show up. It's going to be a good game, but I'm going to go with Denver."

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney: Didn't ask. Just not sure why he was here.

Bears receiver Brandon Marshall: "Uh, no."
