(Reuters) - The Vancouver Canucks have traded goalie Roberto Luongo to the Florida Panthers, according to a report on the National Hockey League's website on Tuesday.
Luongo, 34, was traded for goaltender Jacob Markstrom and another player, not yet identified, according to the article that sourced TVA Sports.
Luongo, who is under contract through the 2021-22 season, had been the subject of trade rumors since losing his starting job to Cory Schneider during the 2012-13 NHL season.
Schneider was traded to the New Jersey Devils at the 2013 NHL Draft and it was expected Luongo would reclaim the starting job with the Canucks, but Eddie Lack has started all of Vancouver's games since last month's Olympic break.
Luongo, who helped the Canucks reach the Stanley Cup final in 2011, spent five seasons with Florida earlier in his career.
He was in net for the Canadian team that won the gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and was the backup goalie on the national team that triumphed at last month's Sochi Games.
