Teenager severs arm in pasta machine at upstate Italian restaurant - New York Daily News

A young employee at an Italian restaurant in Massena, N.Y., severed his arm while cleaning a pasta machine.



The industrial machine turned on and severed the right arm of Brett Bouchard, 17, at the elbow as he cleaned the equipment Thursday night after Violi’s Restaurant closed.

He was flown in critical condition to Massachusetts General Hospital, about 350 miles away in Boston. He was upgraded to serious condition on Sunday morning.



The teenager had surgery to reattach his arm, according to the Watertown Daily Times.



Bouchard was a student at Massena Central High School and has worked at the restaurant since January of 2013, according to his Facebook page.



The restaurant remains open for business, manager Mia Violi told the Daily News.
