BOZEMAN - A new report by the journal Pediatrics deems childhood vaccinations safe - and Gallatin County health officials are echoing that sentiment.

The study's analysis found side effects from vaccines are incredibly rare, and researchers also discovered no ties between vaccines and the rising number of children with autism.

The report did tie parents refusing vaccines to the resurgence of preventable diseases such as measles and pertussis.

Gallatin County health official Matt Kelley says while the analysis should ease concerns, but it might not sway all skeptics.

"That said, for parents if they are are concerned about vaccines, it's important that they talk to their health care provider, that they talk to their doctor, their nurse practitioner, talk to their physicians assistant about those concerns. And to listen," he said.

Researchers did find that some vaccines caused a few adverse effects, but only for a small fraction of the population and the benefits outweigh the risks.
