Question: Should I go on a more serious diet?

I'm a 19 year old female, and I'm 5'1" (really short, I know) and weigh 145 lbs. I gained some weight during my freshman year of college and I've been trying to lose it over the summer. 1 month ago, I weighed 150 pounds, so I lost 5 pounds in the past month. I did this by counting calories on a diet app and trying to eat below 1700 calories a day, plus I started running on a treadmill for 20-30 minutes 4-5 times a week. Even though I've lost some weight, I haven't really seen any visible changes yet aside from my jeans being slightly looser. I still look fat, my BMI still shows I'm overweight, and I'm still embarrassed about wearing a swimsuit. My question is... Should I go on a more serious diet like eating fewer calories or less carbs or eliminating junk food entirely? (I still sometimes eat it, just smaller amounts than before). If I do this, I'll probably see more results in the short term, but I'm afraid I won't be able to stick with it all summer or that I'll start pigging out again as soon as I go back to college. The only reason I can stay with my current plan is that it still allows me to eat enough so I'm not always hungry.

So basically, should I keep losing weight slowly or try a more serious diet so I can see results this summer?
