(NBC) - Microsoft founder Bill Gates donated a billion-and-a-half dollars for vaccination and immunization efforts.
Gates announced the donation at the global alliance for vaccines and immunization conference in Berlin.
The group provides vaccines to children in poor countries. It's a cause close to the hearts of gates and his wife.
"These investments we are making today will save almost as many lives in the next five years as we saved in the last 15, the scaling-up here really drives the number. This is something that Melinda and I believe in deeply", said Gates.
In all, gates has donated four billion dollars to the group, which has provided vaccines to about 500 million children.
