Question: Is it a good idea to lift weights at age 14?

Sure! Just don't do a weight you can't do at least 6 repetitions of. It's advised that teens lift lighter and do more reps (This will build strength and endurance) rather than focus on lifting super heavy weights for fewer reps (not good for bones that are still growing). Also, make sure you have precision alignment and know exactly how to do the exercises. You can learn this from a personal trainer at a gym, or YMCA (The Y is always cheaper!). Many beginning weightlifters just assume they know what they are doing from watching other people in the gym, this is a bad idea as many people at the gym have horrible alignment or they are training for something you aren't.

Good luck!
