Relay For Life season kicks off - WJFW-TV

RHINELANDER - You'll see Relay For Life events across the Northwoods throughout the next few months. The group raises money for people battling cancer. In Oneida County, fundraising has already started. The group held its big kickoff event Saturday.

The kickoff program highlights what Relay For Life does. It's also an opportunity for the community to learn how to get involved.

"It is the big start of the Relay fundraising season. We like to get people to sign up as individuals, as teams, and encourage our corporate sponsors to come out and get signed up for the event," says Angie Harris of Oneida County Relay For Life. "We also reinforce our theme for the year."

Relay for Life is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. So the group chose the theme of the 80s to celebrate.

Even though Saturday was the big kick off, the group has already been fundraising.

"We have actually been raising money all along. Our fundraising season doesn't actually stop," says Harris. "We start the day after Relay working on the next year. We've already done our semi-annual cheese sale, which is very popular and raises hundreds of dollars for our relay and others."

Relay For Life's big event will be July 25th at Hodag Park.
