Question: I have been trying to lose weight for 2months now.?

First off i weigh 310 . I got a trainer. He gave me diet plan and exercise plan.. Exercise plan includes weight trainin only for each day of the week. but i included cardio after i do the weights for the day, i walk/ sprint for a hour on treadmill. And also only do cardio only on sat and sunday. My question is , to lose weight should i be doing any tupe of weight training or just cardio? Cause my sister just recently went to the doctor and the doctor put her on a lil diet plan and my sister said she told the doctor ( which use to be in the military) that we do weight train and cardo and she said to just do cardio because muscle builds over fat and said will do nothing but make you bulky.. My wuestion is what the HELL do i do lol. Just cardio , or could i do both cause now im confused ..
