LOS ANGELES — A man suspected of driving a Ford Mustang that struck and killed two spectators during a street race in Southern California has turned himself in.

Los Angeles police Capt. Capt. John McMahon said 21-year-old Henry Gevorgyan walked into a downtown police station Saturday night.

Gevorgyan had been sought after he fled the scene of the deadly accident in Chatsworth in the San Fernando Valley early Thursday.

Police said he was behind the wheel of a souped-up Mustang that veered out of control and charged across the street into a crowd of spectators on the sidewalk. The street, in a commercial and office area that is mainly deserted after dark, has long been the scene for illegal nighttime street races.

Police said Gevorgyan could face murder charges.
