<div id="playerContainer-o1axj1ddrovrexz4xeff2qy1x-rtldlv" class="ooyala-video-wrapper"/> OMAHA, NE – A young pregnant mother in Nebraska collapses after having a headache.

While doctors say they were unable to save the mother… The took extreme measure to save her unborn child.

Nicole Goodrich reports.

In the eyes of his grandmother, baby angel is a legacy and a miracle.

(Sue Korth, VP, COO Methodist Women’s Hospital) “We took a leap of faith that the tragedy would turn into a healthy delivery. Baby angel is the result of that.”

At 22 weeks pregnant, baby angel’s mom, 22-year-old Karla Perez, had a bad headache.

That headache turned out to be an intracranial hemorrhage.

A brain bleed so bad doctors knew she had little chance of survival.

(Dr. Andrew Robertson/Medical Director Methodist Women’s Hospital) “We don’t know why she had the bleed.”

Karla’s family said they wanted to do everything possible to save the baby. So doctors at Methodist attempted something very rare.

They needed to keep Karla alive as long as possible for the still healthy infant growing in her womb. Only 15 other healthy babies have been born this way.

(man) “We all sat down, and kind of the general response around the table, I had never done this before. This is going to be very difficult”

More than 100 people at Methodist work with Karla. But nearly eight weeks after she came to the hospital, she started to decline.

On April 4, the doctor had to deliver the two pound, 12.6 ounce baby angel by ceseasions. Days later, Karla passed away. But she gave life to four more people by donating her organs.

And through it all doctors say she touched countless lives.

(woman) “You can’t be a part of this without being effected emotionally.”

(Nicole Goodrich/Reporting) “Even though doctors say baby angel is doing well, but they are still monitoring him for any possible health complications. They say because cases like this are so rare it’s hard to even know what’s to expect. Nicole Goodrich News 7.”
