It is called flakka. This is the new synthetic street drug that is taking Florida neighborhoods by storm. It follows a host of popular, synthetic, drugslike Ecstasy and bath saltswhich can have unpredictable side effects.
For example, one man was found running naked through a neighborhood only to end his fleeing by attempting to fornicate with a tree. When approached, he told police officers that he was the mythical god Thor.
Another example describes that one man ran down a busy city streetalso nudein broad daylight trying to escape a pack of ravaging German shepherds. There were no such dogs.
And, oddly, two separate incidents found flakka users trying to break into the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. Both tried to explain that someone was chasing him; one ended up impaled by a fence.

But while these incidents are remarkable on their own, the street drug is more remarkable because it is selling like, as they say, hot cakes. At only about $5 per hit (or less, in some places) flakka is quickly becoming a major problem for Florida law enforcement.
The name of the drugflakkais derived from the Spanish word for a thin and pretty women. The actual drug is usually sold in its crystalized form and is usually smokedlike crack cocainegiving off no odor in the process (which makes it popular among younger users too). Some may also snort or inject the drug.
Broward Sheriffs Office (Fr Lauderdale) drug treatment counselor, Don Maines, comments, Ive had one addict describe it as $5 insanity. They still want to try it because its so cheap. It gives them heightened awareness. They feel stronger and more sensitive to touch. But then the paranoia sets in.
