Mayor: Fire engulfs church, nearby structures in New Jersey - STLtoday.com

PASSAIC, N.J. (AP) — A massive blaze that started at a church and ripped through several buildings in northern New Jersey has been brought under control.

Passaic Mayor Alex Blanco tells NJ Advance Media that firefighters were able to get the flames under control by about 11 p.m. Sunday.

The mayor says the fire appeared to start in the alley of a church and quickly spread to nearby buildings. He says two residential buildings and two garages were ignited by the inferno.

Blanco says about 80 people were displaced by the fire. But he says no injuries were reported.

Fire officials are investigating what caused the blaze.
