Authorities say an 11-month-old boy in North Carolina has died, two days after a tornado struck his home and injured him in the eastern part of that state.

North Carolina’s Department of Public Safety spokeswoman, Julia Jarema, said the boy died in a hospital Sunday but didn’t release details or the boy’s identity. His home in Edenton was destroyed in one of eight tornadoes that hit the state.

State Gov. Pat McCrory toured that and other storm-struck areas Sunday and said his prayers go out to the boy’s family. He pledged to seek state and federal government assistance for the victims.

More than a dozen people were reported injured and around 200 home and businesses destroyed or heavily damaged in Friday’s scattered tornadoes in North Carolina.
