A 4-year-old's Memorial Day visit to his U.S. Marine father's grave is tugging at heartstrings across the country.

Christian Jacobs' plea to his father, Sgt. Christopher James Jacobs, was caught on a news station's camera and has made international news as the United States remembers its fallen military members.

"I hope for you to come back soon, Daddy. And I love you and hope for you to be here, 'cause I know you will be here and I love you," Christian said as he and his mother, Brittany, visited the grave site on Monday.

The New York Post reports that Jacobs was killed in a 2011 training accident, when Christian was just 8 months old.

Yards from where the little boy lay on his father's grave, dressed in a miniature Marine uniform, President Obama honored those who died serving in the military by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

Obama thanked American military personnel and their families for sacrifices made from World War II through the war in Afghanistan, the Washington Post reports.

"It's a debt we can never fully repay," Obama said, "but it is a debt we will never stop trying to fully repay."
