Online match inspires man to lose nearly 400 pounds - Delhi Daily News

Flemming was an alcoholic and severely morbidly obese when he came in contact with Jackie Eastham through a random match on Draw Something, the Pictionary-like mobile game in 2012. Flemming used to drink a fifth vodka mixed with a liter of soda every night while he played the game.

The last time he went for weight on a special scale he was of 625 pounds. Eastham lived in England and was 20 years older than Flemming. Initially, they used to talk about casual things but soon they started talking on Facebook and started confiding in each other.

Flemming was lacking in self-confidence as he was not only alcoholic and morbidly obese but was pre-diabetic and had a recurring cellulitis infection. He, however, opened up with Eastham and expected sympathy in return but Eastham refused to sympathize with him.

"She said there were people struggling for their lives and then there's you - you have all these opportunities and you're throwing it all away," said Flemming, 32, now a business relations representative and part-time music teacher in Canton, Michigan.

Eastham herself was suffering from myotonic dystrophy, an inherited type of muscular dystrophy that causes progressive muscle weakness and can cause impairment of various systems and organs. "I just thought bloody hell, you're a guy who's 30 ... and you're wasting your life," she said. "My future is a lot gloomier. I'm trying to make the brightest future I can, and ... you're dragging yourself down," she added.

This changed Flemming completely and he decided to quit drinking in October 2012 and Flemming has now lost more than 380 pounds in less than two years.
