Question: I want to lose 30-40 pounds by Memorial Day?

That's an unreasonable goal. At the highest rate of weight loss, someone can only expect to lose 1.5-2 pounds per week. Sorry, but you'll have to adjust your goal. In terms of weight loss, it's all about diet and exercise. To lose weight, you need to be expending more calories than you take in. It's as simple as that. A 500 calorie deficit (eat 500 less than you expend) is about the most you can do while still remaining healthy.
