Perry technician falsified mammogram reports - Delhi Daily News

Holmes went for another mammogram and she was shocked to see that she was suffering from an aggressive stage 2 breast cancer. The worse part of the whole trauma was: The earlier test results were falsified.

Holmes was not the only victim of falsification of mammogram reports as later it emerged that lead radiological technologist at Perry Hospital in Perry, a small community south of Atlanta, had signed nearly 1,300 wrong mammogram reports, giving them all clear of any signs of breast cancer or abnormalities.

Holmes said she was horrified after the discovery as she has a son in his 20s and another in high school at the time when it was confirmed. "To me, that meant a death sentence," she said. Holmes then underwent successful surgery the month after the cancer was discovered and got the lump removed and then continued with chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Now she is completely cancer-free for four years and subsequent cancers found elsewhere, in her lymph nodes and thyroid, have also been successfully treated.

Meanwhile, the radiological technician Rachael Rapraeger pleaded guilty earlier this month to 10 misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct and one felony charge of computer forgery. She was awarded six months in a detention center, to serve 10 years on probation during which she can't work in the health care field and to pay a $12,500 fine.
