Altzheimers: Long Term Memory vs Short Term Memory...

I am a sixty-seven year old senior citizen with early onset Altzheimers disease. I first noticed my memory deficency about four years ago and attributed it to just forgetfulness. Now I am in pretty much full altzheimer's. What really blows my mind is that my long term memory is as sharp as ever if not more. With my short term memory I'm lucky if I can remember my name. However, I can remember words to those songs that I have not heard since the late fifties and sixties. This is baffeling to me. Anyone out there aware of the same thing?
