Single Dads vs Single Moms - The Dating Debate

A common misconception guys make when they consider dating a woman with children is that she wants or needs to be rescued. In the U.S., approximately 79% of custodial mothers are gainfully employed. While some men find this sort of strength and independence quite attractive, the majority of men without children say they will not date custodial mothers. In fact, 21% of single moms are actively dating, according to an article in Men's Health magazine. They are not searching for a new dad for their children, but rather short, welcome escapes that promise titillating conversation and adult activities.

In the U.S., one in six men have assumed the role of a single custodial father, and 8% of these dads are raising three or more children alone. The majority of single women have no qualms about dating them, and report finding these men to be honorable and attractive. Only 15% of single dads are living below the poverty line, meaning they're likely not dating to find a babysitter or someone to play mom. Most custodial fathers can afford child care.

The majority of single dads say that they would prefer to date women with children, as they are likely to be more selfless and understanding to their situation.

Why do you feel people do not want to date single parents? Is it because they know the children will always come first? Is it for financial reasons?

What are your personal thoughts on dating someone with children?

Do you feel those who refuse to date single moms or dads are likely making a huge mistake or saving themselves from a huge headache?

Please specify if you also have children.
