Can walking be a good cardio workout?

I have a hard time running and doing certain exercises because of lumps in my lower back. I do walk everyday, tho when it is way too hot I don't. On my walk, I walk at least 1-2 miles and I walk at a rather fast pace. I rarely walk slow unless I am walking with somebody who is having a hard time keeping up.



As long as I walk quickly and get the blood pumping, is it a good cardio workout or should I add something else to my routine? A good portion of my walk is uphill and downhill too, not even half of the walk is completely flat.



If it's not a good workout for my heart, what do you recommend adding that I should be able to do without hurting my lower back?
