Question: How can you change a pizza to have more fibre?

Add flax seeds. You wont taste them and they have lots of fiber. You can buy them in the health food section at grocery stores or on line. They can be added to about anything and if you soak them in water it produces an excellent syrum for acne prone skin, softens skin and aids in healing.

Question: Going "raw"?

I used to be a vegetarian in high school, and then gave it up when I got to college and started the pre-med program. I've been considering going raw for a week or two, just as a detox sort of plan. I already run and exercise several times a week (or as often as I can, during the busy school semester), but I've gained a few unwanted pounds that won't seem to go away--I'm not sure if it's the stress or what.

I'm not "fat", I just really don't like being the weight I am.

Lately I've already been trying to clean up my diet, but once the semester is over in December, I've been considering going raw. It might not only reset my body as a whole, but it'll let me drop the weight faster than having to take two months and deal with set backs and the Holidays and outings with friends, etc..

If I went raw (and stayed on top of it) for a week or two and exercised diligently, how much weight could I lose?

I've heard of people dropping several pounds within the first few weeks, which is all I need. I don't need to lose more than 10 lbs.

I WON'T go back to my old habits--I might allow small indulgences on Christmas day, but I'm definitely not the "quick "fix" and then return to old, bad habits".

I just want to lose the weight faster because: A) I'm impatient, and B) the faster it comes off, the more motivated I remain to stick to healthy eating because I see that whatever I'm doing is working.

Okay, this is going to be very disturbing to some of you because the subject of this is poop. I'm wondering if I have IBS.

So, my day usually begins with me waking up early during college days and struggling to poop, but eventually getting something out by eating breakfast. My stools aren't completely solid. They don't come out in large lengths, but in small lengths (4 - 6 cms appx)

I don't feel much discomfort after I poop, even if only it is a semi-satisfactory evacuation. But an hour later, I start having these gas problems all day long, non stop until my next poop.

Here's the thing, my next poop takes place just minutes after I eat something. Then it happens all over again, gas, eat more, poop again. On working days, I poop twice or thrice (don't want to risk going in those horrible bathrooms in college)

I'm 20 years old, 5'7 and only a 110 pounds. I actually want to gain a lot of weight and right now I'm going to the gym, eating clean, but I always get so gassy and have to poop as mentioned. The gas, I release when I find some place private, but it keeps coming back and I have no choice but to hold it in class. It causes me a lot of discomfort but not any pain. I think.

I'm actually planning on going to a GI, but I'd like to know what to expect. Is it IBS or something else? I mean, I can't live with this much discomfort in my life. I need to get it treated ASAP. Even as we speak, I'm really gassy and as a part of my clean diet, I have to have these beans. Sigh.

Question: Am I at a healthy weight? 5'6 103lbs?

Evening. I weigh 103lbs, and I'm 5'6 Am I underweight or normal? Because I don't feel all that underweight, if I'm honest I feel a bit on the chubby side.. I don't know if it's important to say or not but I've lost about 35-40lbs from March this year, I didn't do it healthily and I fear I might have an eating disorder. I've read about how 2500-3000 calories would be needed for recovery but I don't feel I am unwell enough for that.

Anyway, thanks to those who answer I really appreciate it :)

I find that when I lose weight, i first see weight loss around my waist/as* area.I've been increasing my cardio by playing football and on the tredmil, but I gacrnt seen a difference in my legs? In fact, if anything they've gotten bigger? I've always had big legs, in terms of muscle density, bone density and a little fat.

Innocent man refuses to submit to cops and lie down with guns pointed at him

In their authoritarian enforcement training, [police] are specifically taught to treat people as inferiors, to always try to gain control of everyone and everything the moment they arrive on a scene, telling everyone where to go, what to do, when they can speak, and so on. They are not merely told that they have the right to boss everyone around, which would be dangerous enough; they are trained that they MUST, in every situation, use whatever it takes—commands, intimidation, or outright violence—to get everyone present to bow to their 'authority,' and are taught that it is a crime for anyone to fail to unquestioningly bow to their will, which they characterize as 'disobeying a lawful order.' …

In short, 'law enforcers' are TRAINED to be oppressive megalomaniacs and to treat everyone else as cattle. And, human nature being what it is, anyone who routinely treats others that way—the way "law enforcers" are required to treat everyone else— will learn to despise others and treat them with contempt, disrespect and hostility. However good or bad at heart an individual is to begin with, the way to bring out the worst in him is to give him 'authority' over others.

I do know I will’t alternate the rest. I will’t trade this world and I will be able to’t trade my physique. And it makes me so depressed.

Once I’m satisfied I am no longer eager about this world or my physique or how folks view me. However after I take into accounts it I grow to be depressed.

Folks say melancholy is a psychological dysfunction however it seems like a pure psychological result of the trauma I’ve persevered.

If it’s a pure psychological response to the trauma I’ve persevered and to the arena that I reside in and to my physique, then I do not know how I will overcome it as opposed to forgetting about it.

What kind of existence is that, repeatedly working out of your issues. I will be able to’t kill myself, I want I had a gradual provide of gear. I will by no means be good enough as a result of I’ll at all times be caught on this world and on this physique.

New Crash Test Dummy To Gain Pounds To Reflect Fatalities Among Obese - North Country Public Radio

Joanna Ebenstein, founder of the Morbid Anatomy Museum in Brooklyn, has always had a fascination with creepy things since childhood. Her father, Bob, always nurtured her passion.

Oct, 31 2014 — (Morning Edition) — Joanna Ebenstein is founder of the Morbid Anatomy Museum in Brooklyn's Gowanus neighborhood, which features a human skeleton, a pickled possum and a two-headed duckling, among other things.

Ebenstein and her father, Bob, recalled during a recent visit to StoryCorps, how ever since childhood, she's been fascinated with things that make most of us squirm, including black widow spiders.

"I used to catch them, and I'd put them in jars," says Joanna, 42.

"And I remember having a dead one and bringing it to school in my hand, and it freaked everybody out," she says. "It was like shock and horror. At the bus stop, I remember. To me it just seemed cool."

"You were different," Bob says. "You were inquisitive. And I did the things with you that I liked to do, which is turn over rocks to see what'll crawl out from under. But the interest in dead animals was a little different."

Bob, 71, remembers when Joanna brought home a dead owl off the street on her sixteenth birthday.

"You were driving somewhere with a friend, and you found a dead owl," he says.

"It was a great horned owl," she explains.

"Great horned owl," Bob responds. "And you brought it home, and you dissected it."

"I skinned it," she says.

"And you cut off the legs, cause I still have one, and you said it was the best birthday present you ever got," Bob says. "I mean it's true to this day. If I run out of things to buy you, I get you a bat."

Joanna says she is fascinated by any specimen, dead or alive. "You know, a specimen in a jar is as interesting to me as a cat on my lap that's alive," she says.

Bob always supported his daughter's interests, including graveyards and other spooky things, Joanna says.

"You bought the formaldehyde, you bought me a taxidermy kit," she says. "This is before the Internet; I couldn't just go find a taxidermy kit. You did all that for me.

"You know, there was a point, especially being a girl, when I realized I had to make a choice going forward about how I was going to be in the world, if I wanted to fit in or not fit in," she says.

Because her father never thought her interests were weird, she didn't think they were weird, either, Joanna says.

"But I never thought of myself as encouraging you to do anything, other than if you wanted to do something I would help you," Bob says. "I mean, I never wanted you to be the head of the Morbid Anatomy Museum."

"But you made me able to be who I am without apology," Joanna says. "So, you know, I wouldn't be who I am at all without you."

Ebola expert says China at risk, seeks Japan aid - New York Daily News

A scientist who helped to discover the Ebola virus says he is concerned that the disease could spread to China given the large numbers of Chinese workers travelling to and from Africa.

Peter Piot, who is director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said on Thursday it's not "rocket science" that with many exchanges between the two regions the disease could spread.

"The concern I have is that I don't think you can really stop people from travelling. These patients will show up in any country in the world, but China is quite vulnerable," Piot said.

"The issue is: What is the quality, the standard of infection control? In public hospitals in China, the ones that I've visited, the level of infection control is very poor," he said.

More than 8 600 people have entered China's southern Guangdong province from Ebola-affected areas since August, and there are dozens of flights a month. All arriving from those areas are monitored for three weeks after they enter China and are to be immediately quarantined if they run a fever, according to health ministry guidelines.

Piot said China's controls for infectious diseases have improved and authorities have become more open about public health risks since severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, broke out in southern China in 2002. SARS infected about 8 000 people worldwide, killing nearly 800.

China is also stepping up aid, providing $86 million, to the three West African countries at the heart of the crisis and has sent nearly 200 medical staff.

Piot is a board member of the global health innovative technology fund, a collaboration supported by the Japanese government, Japanese pharmaceutical companies and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that funds research into treatments for malaria, tuberculosis, dengue and other so-called neglected tropical diseases.

Piot said that despite the urgency of the crisis, it was crucial that funds going to those efforts not be diverted to work on Ebola.

Japan has pledged $40 million so far to help combat the Ebola outbreak, but Piot said more is needed.

"I appeal to Japan to contribute from their very rich tradition, in all senses of the word of humanitarian assistance," he said. "When there is a humanitarian crisis, there is always money, and rightly so. Ebola is in that category."

Team Studies Genetic Disposition for Ebola Infection In Lab Rats - Diabetes Insider

Two University of Washington researchers have been working on Ebola research by injecting genetically altered mice to examine if certain genetic combinations can make someone more or less susceptible to Ebola infection.

These trials have traditionally used macaques and guinea pigs or even Syrian hamsters to study this virus—not everyday garden variety lab mice.

“It killed mice, but it didn’t produce hemorrhagic fever symptoms,” reported Michael Katze, microbiology professor at the University of Washington. “When you’re testing drugs and vaccines, it is important that you stop the symptoms that appear in humans. That’s why the nonhuman primates is really financially and ethically difficult.”

Study co-author Angela Rasmussen, microbiology researcher at the University of Washington, comments that “This will ultimately allow us to not only better understand what predisposes an individual with a particular genetic background to either susceptibility or resistance, it will also provide a genetically diverse yet reproducible model in which to test drugs and vaccines,” shares Rasumssen.

She also discusses how rat inbreeding presents foundational problems with this experiment: “Most of the conventional laboratory strains…only have about ten percent of the overall genetic diversity in mice. They’re really more comparable to genetically diverse populations such as humans, but they’re reproducible. We know exactly how one mouse is different from another.”

So for this experiment, they are using Collaborative Cross mice, which are bred intentionally by an international research group. The Collaborative Cross mice cover at least 90 percent of the diversity spectrum of the entire species, which should yield much broader results.

The research paper concludes “The model described in this paper can be implemented promptly to identify genetic markers, conduct meticulous pathogenesis studies, and evaluate therapeutic strategies that have broad-spectrum anti-viral activity against all Zaire Ebola viruses, including the virus responsible for the current West Africa outbreak.”

Ask a Doctor: How can I ensure a safe and fun Halloween for my child who has ... - Chattanooga Times Free Press

Q: How can I ensure a safe and fun Halloween for my child who has food allergies?

A: There is much that parents can do so their food-allergic child can safely experience the fun of Halloween. Education and knowledge are a first priority. At the forefront are organizations dedicated to the safety and success of food allergic children, among them is Food Allergy Research and Education, whose website (foodallergy.org) is filled with educational materials, outreach programs and other ideas. This year FARE is launching The Teal Pumpkin Project for an Allergy- Friendly Halloween, encouraging food-allergy families to start a new tradition: painting a pumpkin teal and placing it on your porch as a sign to other families managing food allergies that you have nonfood treats available at your home. Another resource is kidswithfoodallergies.org.
