The Australian whistleblower Julian Assange has welcomed a surprise offer from Swedish prosecutors to visit London to question him about rape and sexual assault claims.
The founder of WikiLeaks has been holed up for almost three years in the Ecuadorean embassy in Knightsbridge to avoid extradition to Stockholm, where he is wanted for questioning over allegations made by two local women.
Mr Assange fears that if he goes to Sweden he risks being extradited to the United States on far more serious charges relating to the leaking of millions of confidential diplomatic and military cables.
Prosecutors have always ruled out
