Question: How to prepare for a day-long hike?

I'm going on a hike with my college, as part of a retreat, on April 11th. I don't really hike that often, though I love hiking and biking outdoors. I just have no way to get somewhere to hike (and no one to go with), or bike for that matter, as a college student. I am already an active person, and a runner. I run about 10-12 miles a week, swim for an hour each week, and bike for an hour each week. In addition, my college is in the mountains, and my dorm has no elevator, so I walk up 3 flights of stairs to get to my room multiple times a day, and have to walk uphill to get back to my room from class.



The trip is going to last the entire day, minus 2 hours on the bus getting to and from the hiking site. I'd like to be certain that I am prepared for this hike, so what can I do to ensure that I am ready for the hike?
