Question: Opinions on dairy?

So I am studying to be a fitness and nutrition instructor. I have been researching diets for about 4 years as well. My children, husband and I have had proper servings of dairy and I have lost over 67 lbs following our new diet. My kiddos are very healthy, strong, and active and their pediatrician is very pleased with their weight and dairy intake. My step son however, never had much dairy, his mother was convinced for years he was lactose intolerant (it ended up being a gluten allergy once we started researching) and she still doesn't give him much in the way of dairy. He is severely underweight and his developmental pediateician recommended we cut dairy completely. I refuse to cut it for my kids, husband and self because of our success. But I am following doctors orders. So my studies in school talk about the nutritional benefits of dairy, which my kids have benefited from, and that unless youvhave a medical reason, dairy is essential to your diet. We are concerned about taking my step son off of dairy especially since my husband and I just gained custody and saw this as an opportunity to help him gain weight. Just looking for opinions since the developmental pediatricians advice is contradicting my school work and teachings.
