On Sunday, November 2, 2014, at approximately 9.40 pm, police responded to West Coulter Street (Penn Knox, Philadelphia) for a report of an abduction.
A witness was located and stated that he observed a female, identified as the victim, Carlesha Freeland-Gaither, yelling for help, and being forced into a 4-door vehicle , possibly a grey coloured Ford Taurus.
As Carlesha Freeland-Gaither was being forced into the vehicle her glasses and cell phone were dropped onto the highway.
She also broke the driver and passenger side rear windows as the car pulled away with her inside.
Carlesha – who works as a nurse – was on her way home from visiting her godson according to her family, who believe that she may have been followed.
When speaking to Philly.com, Police spokesman Lt. John Stanford said that it appeared from the video she likely did not know the suspect and he had been watching her and laying in wait.
Police described the vehicle as a 2000-2002 dark grey metallic 4-door Ford Taurus with an unknown PA license, an unknown plate on the front bumper, rear spoiler, and both driver and passenger side rear windows broken out. Vehicle is missing inspection stickers and has an unknown merchandise within the centre backside of the entrance windshield.
