For me, the key to maintenance isn’t perfection in the eating, although I do try to stay healthy and low carb as much as possible. (And truthfully, it’s not all that hard after all this time.) What I had to accept was that I needed to track my weight religiously, on the scale, regardless of what I was eating. If I didn’t weigh every day, I would gain a whole lot more than what I feared I’d gained in the first place. It’s the awareness of my weight that makes the difference in getting myself in check before everything gets out of hand, not the perfection of my diet.


I realize that a lot of people don’t weigh every day, but whatever you are doing in your weight loss, whether you are weighing weekly or measuring or fitting into a favorite pair of jeans, once you are in maintenance you simply have to keep doing that after you’ve lost the weight, no excuses. That’s the one rigid requirement I have and once I accepted that unpleasant reality, maintaining became a lot easier for me.


Which is it. My little tip for long run upkeep. Now revel in your Thanksgiving everybody. Simply you should definitely face the song afterwards.
