Is it possible to get stretch marks from working out?

So I've been working out for a couple months and i'm mainly working on my legs and butt. I also have a gym class which is specifically for working out. I've recently noticed that I have stretch marks starting to grow on my butt, and upper thighs. I asked my mom and she said that it was because I was "over bulking" and my petite frame isn't used to having that much pressure on the skin, and so it's causing my skin to stretch. Sorry If I didn't explain that good enough. I only weigh 125lbs. So it's not like i'm over weight and it's cellulite.(not meaning to offend anyone) Which it could be, but I just don't understand how that can happen when i barely weigh anything. But I didn't have these stretch marks until I started doing squats and working out. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
