Dates as an energy-boosting snack

I have many Muslim friends who fast from dawn till dusk during the holy month of Ramadan. They often eat dates in one form or another for energy. One of the best sources of energy, according to my best friend, is to make a sort of milk shake or smoothie with a handful of dates and milk. A large glass of this mixture consumed in the morning will give you enough energy to last till the evening when the fast is broken and people are allowed to eat again.
