Alzheimer's Prevention. How to keep your brain healthy!

My grandfather died of Alzhemier's Disease in his mid 60's. It was extremely terrifying to see his mental state degrade so rapidly until he was just a shell of what he once was. Honestly, I think it's scary for the Alzheimer's patient to realize they are losing memories, but it's even worse for the family to watch them go down hill, with nothing they can do.

Does Alzheimer's Disease scare you? Has anyone you've known had it?

Here are the steps you should take often to make sure your brain is happy and healthy. This may or may not prevent Alzheimer's but heck, it's worth it right?

+Keep your heart healthy!: What does this have to do with your brain? According to research studies, some healthy people naturally get plaques and tangles in their brain and show no symptoms of the disease UNLESS their brain also shows symptoms from heart disease. If your heart is healthy, it can pump that awesome, life-giving blood to your brain even through plaques and tangles.

+Play Chess!: Well ok, you don't have to play chess. But definitely DO keep your mind active with social interactions with other people and tasks (like chess or crossword puzzles) to get your brain thinking!

+Protect your head!: Wear a seatbelt, wear helmets when doing sports or bike riding. Evidence suggests that people who have had severe head trauma may have a greater risk of Alzheimer's Disease.

Unfortunately, there's no cure-all drug or fool-proof method of preventing or curing Alzheimer's Disease. Not yet, anyway. So the least we can do is try to keep our brains happy and healthy!
