Pediatric Robotic Surgery No Better Outcome

The most cutting-edge and astonishing technology today is the robotic surgery. In the United States, da Vinci surgical robotic system is highly popular in the operating rooms. It is equipped with a magnified 3-D high-definition camera system and special wristed instruments that can bend and rotate far better than the human wrist. Complex surgeries can be effortlessly performed by the surgeon with the help of da Vinci. However, it has always been a question if robotic surgery is safe in children. Robotic surgery in children is new; however, it is not experimental, claimed health experts.

The da Vinci Surgical System has quickly gained prominence in the United States because of the benefits the system provides for adult and pediatric surgical laparoscopic cases. News that child patients outcomes from robotic surgery may not be greater than outcomes from conventional laparascopic surgery could mean less hospitals will choose to purchase such expensive equipment.

Patients may have different time of recovery from other patient. The hospitalization is cut short and robotic surgery patients are able to recover fast compared to open surgery patients.

However, both patient and procedure may play a role on how effective robotic surgery is. While robotic-assisted surgery is considered safe and effective, it may not be appropriate for every individual.

Before undergoing a robotic surgery, FDA tells patientsto talk to their respective doctor in order to determine if da Vinci is the best surgical procedure for them. The page on da Vinci lawsuit offers a more complete information regarding this matter.
