Swimming for weight loss

I have been going to the indoor pool twice weekly in the attempt to increase my activity levels so I can lose weight. I've had back surgery so this is the only way I can really move around without a lot of pain. Mainly I just tread water for about 45 minutes in the hopes that some kind of movement is better than none at all.
