An Innisfil man has been charged in connection with a string of thefts and assaults involving foot licking, York Regional Police say.
At around 3:45 p.m. on Nov. 19, a man entered a tanning salon near Yonge St. and 16th Ave. in Richmond Hill. He asked a woman there if he could see her shoe, saying he was shopping for shoes.
The man then smelled her shoe and fled with it, police said.
At around 11 a.m. the next day, a man entered another tanning salon, near Yonge St. and Canyon Hill in Richmond Hill. He approached a woman and asked about her boots. Police said he then grabbed her leg, removed her boot and sock, and licked her foot.
He fled with the woman’s boot and sock.
An investigation revealed similar incidents at tanning salons in Aurora, Innisfil and Bradford, police said.
After police made a public appeal for help, a man turned himself in to police in Newmarket on Wednesday.
Mattieu Petrin, 28, faces four charges of sexual assault, sexual interference with a person under 16, three charges of theft under $5,000 and robbery.
He was to appear in court on Thursday for a bail hearing.
