Would this meal plan work for me?

I'm a 6'2 180 pound 18 year old. And I've been trying to gain lean muscle mass and it hasn't been working. But my friend told me about this meal plan he has been doing and I have seen the results on him.

It's 5 meals a day. And each meal consits of chicken breast, pasta or brown rice. And green beans. Also with fruit as snacks. And of course a morning and nighttime protein shake. Now I know this is a very basic meal plan, but how can I figure out the servings of each. And what kind of chicken or pasta should I buy?
