BEIJING (AP) Chinese state media say 81 people have been sentenced on terrorism and other charges in the northwestern region of Xinjiang.
State broadcaster CCTV said the sentences including nine death sentences were issued in six different courts on Thursday. They were broken up into 23 separate cases and also included charges of murder and arson.
The sentences come amid a massive crackdown in Xinjiang following a series of deadly attacks blamed on Muslim extremists.
