FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) The northern New Jersey town that experienced traffic jams when approach lanes leading to the George Washington Bridge were closed has called in the cavalry.
Fort Lee named "F Troop" actor Larry Storch mayor for a day on Sunday.
The 91-year-old Manhattan resident played Cpl. Randolph Agarn in the 1960s TV comedy that was set at fictional Fort Courage.
The Record (http://bit.ly/1gXlf0R ) newspaper that reports Cultural and Heritage Affairs administrator Tom Meyers told the crowd that Storch vowed to mount his horse and charge to the bridge if anyone messes with the lanes.
Storch said he forged a special relationship with Fort Lee because he performed at a nightclub there that was open from 1931 to 1954.
In "F Troop," his character claimed he was from another New Jersey city, Passaic.
