I have an apple as a late night snack, but not every day, because of the sugar content. Something I find useful for curbing hunger pangs, before or between meals, is sliced raw mushrooms. The meaty texture helps to fill you up, and they take some chewing, so you feel as if you've eaten more than just a few calories. And of course, mushrooms are not so high in sugar as apples.

I am confused, Sandra! I thought you told me you had an Apple Martini for your late night snack! hmmmmmmm. I like apples but had a hard time chewing them with my "wooden" teeth! But yesterday I bought a blender and now I can make them and other fruits that I used to love more palatable!

This is a good idea. I love apples but do not eat enough of them. I wish we had an apple tree but do not:( Maybe some day I will plant one. Anyway, apples are really not that expensive to buy at the store and there are so many different varieties of them.

You won't lose weight by eating apples alone...if they are replacing something like Oreos are other sugary, carb-loaded snacks, then sure you can lose the pounds via substitution...but if you are looking to get down to a shredded physique, apples as a primary source of nutrition are not going to do you much good in getting there...lean protein and timed complex carbohydrate consumption are going to give your body a much better chance for building muscle and burning fat.

Yeah, I agree. It would take much more than apples in order to get a well defined physique. However, they are much better as snacks than cookies. (Which I myself was bad about eating. However, a weak of being completely broke and finding some more nutritious snacks was very helpful.)

Right, I would take an apple over a cookie...but not over a lean cut of meat. They are actually quite expensive for the lack of nutrients provided for burning fat and building muscle...I would rather pick up a portion of protein or some leafy green vegetables for a large amount of calories and a filling feeling...an apple wouldn't quite do it for me in any case unless it was an absolute mandatory substitution for something with more refined sugar...which is never the case in my life.

I have a similar problem with my "wooden" teeth the other day. I bought a mango which was a bit too hard. So I cooked it with some sugar and made a syrupy drink out of it with bits of mushy fruit. I suppose the same can be done with apples.

I went out the other day and bought a powerful blender...Now I can make sauce and enjoy apples - which are not too common here- and other fruits and veggies!

Apples have nutritional value but they are also one of the worst foods for pesticides. I read that a typical apple contains over 20 different pesticides! I do like apples but I only buy them when the organic apples are on sale.

Are they good for losing weight? No.
