Technology - bridging the gap or widening the gap?

Facebook allows you to connect with people from most parts of the world. And so do other social media networks like Twitter and Google Plus. Cellphones and other electronic gadgets makes it easy to communicate with friends that are not close to you geographically. It definitely bridges the gap between people who are far from each other.

However, it's the other way around with people who are with you. Your conversations become less and your fun moments together decreases. Well, we can't have it all. You win some, and you lose some. Would you rather be close with someone far away and be separated with those already close to you? Or would you choose to just stick with those around you?
