Our nation's capital tops the list of healthiest cities in America.The American Fitness Index, released by the American College of Sports Medicine, ranks how healthy people are as well as health-conscious resources available to residents in each community.
Washington, DC ranked the best, beating out Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota and Portland, Oregon.
New York City came in 24th on the list.
The most unhealthy city in America, according to the survey, was Memphis, Tennessee.
The report focuses on the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the United States. It reflects a composite of preventive health behaviors, levels of chronic disease conditions, and community resources and policies that support physical activity.
The metropolitan rankings in the 2014 AFI report are:
