It is good to stay in shape - but to use it to get into shape could be a challenge. Yes, when done properly, a very good workout. Be sure the pole is installed properly and securely. Be sure to set up a camera so when it breaks you can post it and get a lot of views. If it is set up securely, you can use the video to watch yourself improve. As with any strenuous activity, you need to be up for it. Being a couch potato for a couple of years and deciding to jump into pole dancing is asking for failure and likely injury (including falling on your head).
