All study and no play is bad for the bones

The bones of the kids, that is. Specifically the hip bones of the girls. According to one study,

Quote:

The strongest connection between 'deskbound behaviour' and low bone mineral content was found in girls' hips.

The study also found that,

Quote:

...participating in at least three hours of high intensity sports such as football, basketball, netball or running, could significantly reduce the threat in girls.

Now what about the boys? More information here:

Being a swot can be bad for girls' bones...but sorry boys, so can playing computer games | Mail Online

I wonder why the girls' hip bones are more vulnerable.
