Question: Foot position issues for splits?

I'm trying to be able to do the front splits again but I'm having a hard time with foot positions. When I go down into the position my back foot naturally wants to point inwards. I have read about it and I've seen that if your front food goes straight out then your back foot should also be straight so that I'm on the top of my foot and knee. I've also heard that another way is to point both front and back foot away from the body...it's like my back foot pointing out or straight back is really uncomfortable and almost to the point of being painful Maybe it's just me but I feel like I'm the only one who is struggling with this and I hope someone has some suggestions for me as to what I can do :)
