I think food like Pringles and other potato chips definitely classify as junk food. However, with that being said, I think they are one of those foods where you can enjoy in moderation, especially if you need to keep your cravings in check. The same goes with other types of chips like Doritos and Cheetos.

I still consider sit-ups as the staple abs exercise. What makes this form of exercise even more convenient and practical is the fact that you can perform it anytime, anywhere. You would not need any exercise equipment.

There are many different ways to lose weight. What you would want to do is eat less food. You also want to eat foods that are rich in nutrients. Empty calories are not going to be very beneficial. Some of the best nutrients include potassium, protein, fiber, B vitamins. There are many more nutrients that your body needs.

I know what you mean. Her song extraterrestrial always made me feel like kicking butt on the treadmill. I also love her song "Firework". She has a lot of great up-tempo songs that are perfect to working out to. Don't feel ashamed. I have a couple of her songs on my playlist. Rihanna also has a lot of great pop songs to work out to.

I like some of her songs, but don't know too many of them. The ones I've heard were upbeat, happy songs. They would be good workout songs. Upbeat songs seem to just motivate you instantly.

Upbeat and happy songs would of course be perfect for workouts. Any dance songs can be a suitable workout company actually it all depends in our mood. I remember singing along with Britney Spears while doing my workout before. I just love Britney songs before. Katy Perry is comparable to how I love her songs.

I used to love chocolate bars, I ate them to gain energy - I ate a lot of them. Now I can't to this anymore because I've learned that I need to be on a gluten-free diet and most of my favourite bars contain wheat proteins. I've found some replacements, but they don't taste that good. I'm still looking, though!

I use the Lose It app on my iPhone. It's the only thing I have with me at all times. It has calorie information preloaded so it's as simple and scrolling and selected what I ate or the activity I've done. Sadly that's still not simple or convenient enough for me because I go through long bouts of not logging.

I tried this earlier on, using strawberries as the sweetener and it is delicious! I made of a mess not putting the lid on the blender and ended up with quite a bit on the kitchen surfaces, but I found it to be quite tastey. Thanks a lot for sharing your recipe. I'm on a smoothie binge now I've taken the blender out of the cupboard finally!

Quit eatting wheat and wheat based products. Any time I want to slim up thats the fastest surefire way to do it. Lean protein and lots of greens. Drink a ton of water.

Most people have a similar experience when they abstain from eating wheat and grains in general. Cutting out grains is really good for fat loss and overall health. I very rarely eat grains nowadays.

To be honest I'm like a child when it comes to escalators. I love riding up and down, it's fun for me even though I do it billions times a month. Most of the times I just stand on it and I look around how everything is moving. When I'm in a hurry I try to run: running down the escalator is extreme:p

I stand on it and go for a ride like a normal person. If I were in a big hurry, I would just jump down instead of riding an escalator. I'd mess up my knees or ankle on the landing, but hey, I'm in a rush. People who walk down the working escalators look disturbed. Not cool.

It depends on the type of day I am having. I usually walk up or down as the escalator is moving. I am just usually under some kind of stress. There are other times when I just stand and let the escalator do its work. I never ride the rails.

Sounds like you are eating a lot of crap, no wonder you have gained weight. Cut out the sugar and restrict your carbohydrate intake to 50g or less per day. Your carbohydrates would ideally come from vegetables. You need fat in your diet, make sure it is good quality fat from sources like avocado, coconut, pastured animal fat or butter, extra virgin olive oil, fatty fish etc.

You could have a scheduled cheat meals once per week to indulge in your love for chocolate. Opt for 70% dark chocolate, less sugar.

I will echo Cthulhu and Shaun, Donald. Change your split away from carbs (especially simply carbs) and switch to more lean protein and moderate healthy fats...you are going to do little but store your calories and feel incredibly hungry at all time at this point.

Make sure you are eating reasonably, but not starving yourself. Keep the metabolism high and the rest should follow. You can boost your metabolism by doing more cardio and building muscle. If you do this then there should be no reason why you are failing to lose weight apart from possible chronic dehydration. Make sure you are getting sufficient fluids and electrolytes for your bodily needs.

I realized that I had gained a little weight as well, the other day. I don't weigh often because it's not as important to me as eating healthy. If I know that I am doing things right, I don't worry too much about my weight.

I do not have a formal recipe, but my husband likes to make his version of "eggplant fries". Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Then you will need to cut the eggplan up into shapes similar to french fries. Next, my husband allows the eggplant to "sweat" or dry out some. You will quickly notice the liquid being drawn out. While this process is taking place, he then takes about a handful of almonds and grinds them in the food processor. I imagine that you could use almond meal, breadcrumbs, panko, or any other preferred breaded mixture. After this, he adds garlic powder, salt, pepper, and about 1 tbsp. of corn starch to the almond mixture. Next, he lightly greases a baking pan with olive oil or coconut oil. Once this is done, he "swirls" the eggplant pieces in the oil. Once they are lightly coated, he dips the pieces in the breaded mixture. The "fries" are laid out evenly in the pan. We usually let the eggplant bake for about 15-20 minutes. Wait to cool and then enjoy! We love this dish with ketchup, of course.

The only way I can eat eggplant is in the form of baba ganoush. I've never made it from scratch personally, but whenever I've bought it, it has always been amazing. Very good with some crackers or naan bread. Although, I don't know how diet friendly it is. At least probably not, the way I've had it.

I just tried baba ganoush recently and it is so good! The first time I really started to like eggplant was in a fried eggplant parm sub sandwich. It was the greasiest, most unhealthiest thing you could possibly eat, but I love that marinara sauce. Those days are behind me and now I just eat baked or steamed eggplant.

Drink more water as well. A lot of time people are confusing their feelings of hunger with thirst. If you drink two litres of water a day you will help suppress your appetite, which will lead to eating less food, which in turn will help you lose weight without the need for more exercise. Both/neither.

You specifically said riding it "down" and I pretty much always take the stairs down instead when they're available.

If I take the escalator up, I tend to walk up it unless traffic is stopped or if I have baggage with me, etc.

If you both would like more detailed help on logging your daily nutrition in a simple format, try http://www.myfitnesspal.com - I used it to find caloric intake in my foods and get my cutting diet right.

I have no affiliation with myfitnesspal, simply referring them because it worked and still works great for me...

I use a calorie counting site. That way its easier for me. I just have to know what I have eaten that day and put it in, and it puts out all the numbers for me. Once I started to do this, I stopped snacking as much on junk food because then it looks bad on the tracker thing. Its one way to help kick a habbit.

Try getting a little more sleep. I find that when I am low on energy I need to get more sleep. I find't want to take hormone replacement, it has been ok so far. I am taking more calicum to avoid bone lose. Hope you get your work up soon.

I completely agree! Her music is so perfect for working out. I especially like her angrier songs when I'm working out for some reason. Also, just thinking about her when I work out is helpful, because she has a similar build to me but she is much more fit. She is helpful inspiration for me.

I keep an excel spreadsheet and track my workouts more so than I do with my food. I probably should, but my diet is so standard and doesn't really fluctuate (as far as caloric intake) when I am really trying to lose.

I made my own chocolate coconut energy bars using soaked oats, dates, butter, toasted coconut, cocoa powder, cream cheese and whey protein. Mix all the ingredients together and let it set in the fridge. It's best to let it set overnight if you want the bars to be hard.

I usually don't move, just take it easy. Running, even if you think you're quite experienced, can always end in a little accident .. I do however sometimes walk fast if I'm in a hurry, but hey, for those 10 seconds that you might win, it's not worth it.

I stand and ride up or down because that's what escalators are meant for. I really hate when people walk up or down the stair on a moving escalator as it can be dangerous not only for themselves but also for others. If I have a choice between stairs and escalators then I usually choose stairs unless I have lots of shopping bags in my hands.

To me, It's the ultimate ride. I start by walking slowly towards them while turning my cap around to look extra cool and then pretend I'm on a surf board while they take me from A to B about as quickly as a sloth with a bad limp. I then jump the crack at the bottom like I'm leaping over an ice crevasse. All the while finish off eating a sausage roll (its my day off) from greggs the bakers. Once, an old woman stopped me at the bottom of the escalator and said "ooooo, you're tall aren't you. Would you like a job at my house changing lighbulbs?" to which I replied "No, no old woman I wouldn't. I'm holding out for something bigger. I've got plans, ideas. I love Mcdonald's real fruit smoothie, I tried it out this summer using a coupon and wow, it tasted amazing. I've also tried out the new Burger King's Smoothies but they're kind of bland in taste for me but the Mcdonald's smoothie was really similar to Jamba juice's smoothies, astounding.

Yes, I beleive they are hormone related as well, and now the hot flashes have begun; although, they are not too bad, just a little bothersome now that the weather here in getting up around 100 degrees.

Seventy-five dollars is a great deal, but I've got my youngest starting college in a couple of months. With tuition payments and college books costing an arm and a leg, I've got to see where we are after paying all those expenses first. Things aren't too bad health wise and my energy does get better whne I stay away from the refinded carbs, so I can hang in there a bit longer. Luckily, my hubby's got a job interview next week with an awesome company that sounds very promising. All my life I've had jobs that provided health insurance, so living without it to me is like playing Russian roulette with your health and life. I'm crossing my fingers that will change soon.

It sure is - I went without for years. My girlfriend had to have major surgery with no health insurance some years ago as well. Hopefully the interview goes well and you can get covered soon..........

No problem, always happy to help. I don't know what your financial situation is without the insurance, but the blood tests I mentioned aren't very expensive. Most hospitals and doctor's offices also give discounts to the uninsured, so getting the tests done would probably run around $75. Just FYI........

I'd be willing to bet that your issues are hormone related.........

I am not of the age to have this yet or for awhile but my mom and aunt have gone through perimenopause and then menopause. They did sometimes have a lack of energy. I think this can come with the changes in hormones. Does exercise help you to gain any more energy back? What is your GYN doctor like? I have a lady who is very knowledgeable about natural remedies that can help with various female problems.

Hormone replacement therapy can be very effective. Even if you don't want to start hormone replacement yet, I'd still advise going in for a complete hormone workup as well as getting your thyroid checked. Both can be done by simple blood tests. You'll want to get Estrogen, E2, testosterone, progesterone, prolactin, FSH, LH, SHBG, a thyroid cascade, total T3, and free T4.

This should tell you a lot about whether your lack of energy is due to menopause or other reasons. If you'd like, you can post the results here or PM me with them if you want someone to look them over in detail with you........

I think how much you should run right now depends on your fitness goals, your current cardiovascular endurance, your weight, your height, etc. How much weight are you looking to drop? Have you already been a pretty active person going into this new gym membership? Everyone has different workouts tailored to their current physiques and endurance. But in general though, HIIT has gained much recognition for its cardiovascular benefits that can be achieved in such a short amount of time.

HIIT is an effective method of increasing aerobic capacity quickly to allow for long cardiovascular sessions where needed. Many distance runners participate in sprints / HIIT to allow them to run longer distances at a more intense rate.

Nonsense - he would have been FAR more dominant if he stayed in shape. The reason he became more static is because he became a fat ass. Phil wanted him to lose weight. Had he stayed in shape throughout his career his numbers would've been Wilt-like.........

Unfortunately, no amount of sit-ups or abdominal training exercises will reduce your belly fat. You can build up the muscles beneath the fat all you like, but it will only be through proper nutrition and cardio that you'll be able to reduce the layer of fat sitting above your abdominals. This means cutting back your daily caloric intake so that you're in a calorie deficit of at least 500 calories. Do this for 1 week and you'll lose 1 pound (because you must burn 3500 calories to lose 1 pound).

Hi, I am the inventor, glad some of you like my product and others got a giggle from it.

In answer to your questions:

You keep it in place by wearing panties.

Inventing it and designing it was a whole heap of fun (I went through over 300 prototypes and had three dozen testers help me find the perfect shape so you do not notice it when you are wearing it, and so it doesn't move around however much you toss and turn: a quick google will through up dozens of articles, many in major mainstream publications, by women who have tried it and were, frankly, surprised to find this to be the case!)

It not only has a snooze function, it has a snorgasm function. That's a gentle power snooze. Thinking that one up was the most fun :).

Quick update...

I was at a going away party for a friend and I decided to be the entertainment. Hanging from a pole seems easy at first but when you wake up and are sore for the next 2 days it will make you think about it.

The assumptions that come behind pole dancing aside, you have to be pretty flexible and strong to pull yourself up and down a pole. I know that is not something I could ever do... Given, I am fairly overweight. But, even when I am not... I do not think I would have the upper body strength for it. My props go out to anyone who can do it and does it for exercising purposes.

Each to their own, I guess, but pole dancing is not something I would like to do. I think there are better ways of strengthening your muscles and your core. I suppose it could be fun, but I don't see it as 'manly' exercise, haha.

Didn't see it but I will acknowledge that bodyweight resistance at those angles takes incredible core strength and muscle fiber stamina...hence the reasons why gymnastics are so muscular...

I wonder what ever possessed him to pursue this as a hobby or passion...maybe he is a male gymnast?

Male stripping? Don't get too excited? Let me check. No, I don't see any of my body cells getting excited about that. I think the main reason is that all my body cells are male. If male body cells can get excited by other male body cells, then I could very well get excited by just looking at myself.

Seriously speaking, those pictures show that pole dancing can be a really strenous exercise.

You need to get your body fat percentage down to the single digits before your abs pop through. 6-5-4-3-% body fat and they will show through. Some people can get away with a higher amount of body fat and still have them show, others need to really work hard at it.

At 5'10" 165 pounds and no abs, they are doubtfully huge abs...it probably more of a midsection development issue since that weight and height is unlikely to have a high body fat percentage.

You can start to see abs around the 10 percent bodyfat range for average genetically inclined individuals. 6 to 3 percent is a highly unlikely goal for 98 percent of people in a lifetime...3 percent will never happen. Never. And those who can see abs at a higher body fat percentage are simply genetically blessed in the manner of having body fat more evenly distributed as opposed to more being stored subcutaneously in the midsection like the rest of us with average joe genetics.

Eh, more than that. A lot of people can see abs at 15%. People always underestimate their body fat levels. When someone says they're 6% they're usually 10%+. Of course most people have to get into the single digits to see ALL your abs and for them to look shredded.

Point taken. I've never been below 10% body fat. My brother has been below 10% but he still dipped lower to improve his abs definition because they wern't fully out. He walked around like a zombie for while with no energy at all in him. His face was pretty gaunt and he fell asleep about 10 times a day. Like I said, it's hard work, but it's possible.

Oh yes, with the diet as low in carbs as it is to achieve that low of a body fat percentage, it certainly does make you lethargic and light headed at times...a fairly miserable yet rewarding experience for the majority of us not naturally inclined to have a more even spread of body fat and therefore abs that will easily show at multiple bodyfat percentages. Congrats to your brother by the way...that is hard work!

Oh yes, with the diet as low in carbs as it is to achieve that low of a body fat percentage, it certainly does make you lethargic and light headed at times...a fairly miserable yet rewarding experience for the majority of us not naturally inclined to have a more even spread of body fat and therefore abs that will easily show at multiple bodyfat percentages. Congrats to your brother by the way...that is hard work!


I don't buy that T.O. is lower than Berkhan though...maybe 6 percent, but look at that:

And Peppers was seriously measured between 3 and 4 percent bodyfat out of college? Are you kidding me? Seriously? Are you kidding? Do you believe that or have any pictures of him at that percentage? Have you ever seen someone remotely close to 3 percent body fat? I find it very difficult to fathom...

I read the stats for Peppers in Sports Illustrated - they were from the NFL Combine so I'm sure they were accurate.

T.O. is probably right around the level of Berkhan - even more impressive for him since he's a lot heavier. Apparently his trainer claims he is between 3-4%.

Brady Quinn was officially measured at 5% also........crazy impressive for a QB. Can't find any recent photos of him showing off how lean he is, but you can see from his arms here he is pretty damn lean:
